KPMG’s Initiative Advances Women’s Careers in Technology

Fifteen women have graduated from the second cohort of KPMG Fiji’s ‘It’s Her Future’ program, a two-day training designed to develop skills and create pathways for women to enter technology careers where they are traditionally underrepresented.

After last week’s training, KPMG Fiji managing partner Lisa Apted told the media that the accounting firm was thrilled to host the tech session for young women envisioning a future in technology.

Ms. Apted stated, “This marks the second year of running the program, which has been highly successful for us providing women with a chance to enter a field that has not typically been theirs.”

Fiona Glaskin, KPMG Australia’s technology lead and program facilitator, said the training was an exciting experience for the participants, who demonstrated great enthusiasm for the material she presented.

She explained that the participants took part in rigorous activities like mock job interviews and debates, engaged in thoughtful discussions, met professionals in their desired roles, and received training covering all the skills necessary to succeed as women in technology.

Ms. Glaskin remarked, “Each year the program develops further thanks to the valuable feedback received from previous participants.”

She noted, “A significant change from last year is that some women who participated previously have now joined our workforce.”

She added, “Having previous participants return to share their experiences with the new cohort truly demonstrates the program’s impact.”

Final-year university students Shreshtha Sharma, Ilisabeta Vitukawalu, Tanya Molia, Cheyennce Godson, and Sisilia Singh shared their appreciation for the program in an interview with this newspaper.

They described the program as an “eye-opening experience” and expressed their intention to apply the knowledge they gained to their respective technology careers.
